This is my soap box, The Green Poodle's BLOG, the place where I vent, rant, express my opinions, attempt to educate, and ramble on about whatever is currently on my mind. While feedback is always welcome, please don't be disappointed if what you say has little to no effect on what I say. This is not to say that I am closed minded; far from it. I love a spirited exchange of educated opinions. However, as a wise man once said, "Opinions are like assholes. We all have them and they all stink."
Looking back, it seems to me that early (say 1960s) prime time television was dominated by westerns and sci-fi. At least, that's what I remember watching.
The Twilight Zone
The Time Tunnel
Lost In Space
This last wasn't very good sci-fi, even for the time. Dr. Smith was a malicious buffoon and Robbie the Robot looked like a stack of tin cans. But, we watched.
In 1998, a movie was made borrowing heavily from the TV series. It was OK. But ....
Now, 20 years after the movie and 50 years after the original series went off the air, Irwin Allen's memory is being kept alive by the folks at NetFlix.
This time, we have serious life and death sci-fi and a back story that tells us why these people are wandering around "lost in space" in the first place. And don't forget the first time we hear the un-named robot utter the statement, "Danger, Will Robinson." I've only seen a few episodes, but I do like it and I hope it continues.
